Commerce Chronicles 007

There’s so much that’s happened over the past week in our world of brands and commerce. We’ve tried to cover it all here and show you the highlights (and honestly what’s most actionable). Skip to the screengrabs if you want a true roundup.

Let’s get to bizness 🫡

In today’s email:

  • SHOPIFY EDITIONS: A ROUNDUP

  • USING HISTOGRAMS FOR DATA ANALYSIS AND GROWTH

  • SCREENGRABS OF THE WEEK

But first a quick message…

Reply to this email for a free brand funnel breakdown in your inbox.

Curious how your brand’s funnel stacks up to your competition? Reply to this email and we’ll do a deep dive.

A few weeks ago we sent out a call to action for any brands who wanted to have their competition funnel hacked, to which a lot of you were interested! We’re working our way through the list, but we’ve sent out responses to a bunch of you.

Here’s one we’ll keep anon:

You’ll get a link to a Figma with a bunch of screenshots and comments.

I recommend this only if you're actively spending budget to test various landing pages, ad creatives, and funnels. There’s not much of a funnel to hack if you don’t have variants going.

If you’re interested, reply to this email with your site URL, ***ONE*** competitor’s URL, and your current ad spend.

SUMMARIZING SHOPIFY EDITIONS
SUMMER 2023

AI Designed for Commerce—Shopify announces an AI assistant called Sidekick to help entrepreneurs 10x their output.

More Customizations to Shop app—Shopify adds more custom capabilities to your Shop’s store.

A Redesigned Shopify Admin—Shopify switches up the admin UI/UX. NGL this new layout is confusing. However, this isn’t the first time Shopify’s done this to some user confusion. We’ll get used to it.

Shopify-enabled dropshipping—Shopify Collective lets you sell your products through other Collective retailers.

Shopify Bundles for Free—Shopify fully releases their Bundles app, which allows sellers to create and sell bundled SKUs right in the Admin.

Shopify Business Credit Card—Shopify launches their own credit card. No fees, no interest. Eligible sellers are based on business performance not credit score.

More New Checkout FeaturesNew APIs and updates that allow you (or your devs) to create custom experiences. Yes, this is only for Shopify Plus sellers.

USING HISTOGRAMS FOR DATA ANALYSIS AND GROWTH

Mehtab from Karta Ventures shares a quick data and customer insight win for us brands.

And it starts with is a simple data export:

  1. Export Shopify orders, make sure order value is selected as a column

  2. Throw into Excel or Sheets, whichever you prefer

  3. Create a histogram

  4. Analyze via order distribution

In other words, wherever on the x-axis there’s a cluster of orders is where our insight lies. That means we have a bunch of customers ordering around that specific price mark. So what do we do with that info?

A few things.

First, we can determine whether or not we can actually increase our free shipping threshold. If we have a tranche of customers around a certain price point, we can test slight increases.

Second, we can use this data to see which bundles might be creating a solid incentive for customers to purchase.

Third, we can use this visual to dig into our retention data. If we’re seeing a tranche of orders at a certain price point, what does that say about our repurchases? What does that say about intent??

There’s a goldmine waiting in your Shopify order exports. Enjoy ":)

HEXCLAD—GORDON RAMSEY APPROVED

There’s something wonderful about seeing a brand winning this year. Hexclad is one of the brands on the internet that not only have a super fun partnership with Gordon Ramsey (see below), but they also have a sound business and their team gives back to the commerce community.

Oh, to be a fly on the wall at this campaign pitch to Gordon.

Do you have Hexclad pans? How do you like them?

CLOSING NOTES

Thanks for reading! Hope you learned something. What’s your favorite Shopify Editions update? Mine is definitely NOT the new UI/UX. It’s confusing. But we’ll get used to it.

Enjoy your week, and we’ll see ya Sunday :)
